196-222 Kings Road

Putney & Wood were appointed to deliver the supply and installation of specialist façade art panels at 196-222 Kings Road, forming part of The Gaumont, a landmark mixed-use development in the heart of Chelsea.

The project forms part of a wider £235m redevelopment, creating a new commercial and cultural destination on the King’s Road, incorporating retail, workspace, residential accommodation, and a significant public art installation integrated into the restored façade.

Our scope comprised the supply and installation of hand-painted glazed terracotta panels forming part of the permanent artwork Cascade, designed by artist Shezad Dawood. The installation consists of large-scale ceramic panels composed of individually crafted and glazed tiles, forming a prominent feature within the historic façade.

Putney & Wood were responsible for coordinating the installation of these panels, ensuring precise alignment, secure fixing, and integration with the surrounding façade elements. Particular attention was required to achieve the intended visual continuity of the artwork, as well as to accommodate tolerances and interfaces with the retained structure.

Delivered over a 6-week programme and completed in June 2025, the works contribute to a striking and culturally significant façade feature, enhancing the identity of the development and reinforcing the artistic and historic character of the King’s Road.
