Putney & Wood were appointed to deliver the external façade package at 58–60 Berners Street, a high-quality mixed-use development located in the heart of Fitzrovia.
The scheme forms part of a wider redevelopment providing approximately 76,000 sq ft of office and retail space across Berners Street and Wells Street, combining new-build construction with the retention of historic façades.
Our scope comprised the supply and installation of natural stone, terracotta, and specialist glazed brick elements, including Portland Grove Whitbed, Darney stone, Alma Grey granite, extruded terracotta, and blue glazed brick to the window surrounds. All materials were manufactured to detailed setting-out drawings to ensure consistency in jointing, alignment, and overall façade quality.
Working in collaboration with McLaren Construction and Emrys Architects, Putney & Wood supported the project through design coordination and technical development, producing fabrication information and bespoke fixing strategies tailored to the building structure and programme.
The project incorporated multiple façade typologies, including glazed terracotta, handset brickwork, and retained heritage elements, requiring careful coordination to achieve a cohesive architectural finish across all elevations. Particular attention was given to interface detailing between materials and the integration of new façades alongside retained structures.
Delivered on a constrained central London site, the works required detailed sequencing and logistical planning to maintain programme efficiency over an 8-month installation period.
Completed in June 2024, the scheme provides a refined and durable façade that enhances the surrounding streetscape while reflecting the architectural intent of a contemporary commercial development rooted in its historic context.
