Putney & Wood were appointed to deliver the stone façade package at 25 Cannon Street, a major refurbishment and redevelopment scheme in the City of London.
The works comprised a comprehensive programme of survey, cleaning, repair, replacement, and new-build stonework to the existing façade, alongside the installation of a new Portland stone façade supported on an SFS backing structure. The scope also included soffits, cornices, decorative spandrel panels, and granite elements to the main entrance.
A key aspect of the project was the careful dismantling, assessment, and reuse of existing stone where possible. Salvaged materials were cleaned, repaired, and re-sized for incorporation into the new façade, ensuring continuity with the original building while meeting modern performance requirements.
Putney & Wood undertook full design development, fabrication, and installation, including the integration of secondary support structures, cavity barriers, waterproofing systems, and associated façade build-up elements. Close coordination with the main contractor and design team was essential to manage interfaces with retained structures and adjacent trades.
Delivered on a constrained City site, the project required detailed sequencing, logistical planning, and a high level of quality control to balance restoration works with new construction.
The completed scheme successfully combines retained and new stonework, delivering a high-quality façade that preserves the character of the original building while providing a durable and modern external envelope.
