External stonework cleaning and restoration, new build Portland stone cladding

12-15 Finsbury Circus External

This 1980s-office building is in the heart of the Finsbury Circus Conservation Area between Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations. The new development has transformed the original Portland and Bath stone facades on both Finsbury Circus and South Street to provide 200,300 sq ft of Grade A and ‘excellent’ BREEAM rated, 21st Century office accommodation.

Skanska, the design and build contractor, appointed Putney & Wood to design, supply and install seven storeys of new Portland stone cladding to the South Street elevation and clean and restore the ornate Bath stone and Portland stone on the Finsbury Circus elevation. Although the two facades required different masonry skills – stone fixers with experience of installing large panels of ashlar stonework for the new build South Place elevation and highly skilled restorers on the Finsbury Circus elevation to survey, restore and piecemeal replace the original Bath and Portland stone. Putney & Wood’s inhouse design team and highly skilled site-team worked together to deliver the project on time and on budget.
