51 Moorgate

51 Moorgate is a dual-fronted office building in the City of London, developed by Skanska to deliver high-quality workspace, wellbeing facilities and ground floor retail accommodation. The completed building achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and WELL Certification.

The project involved the removal of the existing façade and the design, supply and installation of Jura limestone cladding, fixed directly back to the retained primary structure. At ground level, a Dakota Red granite plinth was installed to provide a durable and visually distinctive base to the façade.

The façade incorporates a complex high-level projecting stone cornice. This required carefully engineered protruding support fixings, enabling the stone to be securely supported while maintaining fully concealed fixings. The system was designed to work within significant constraints associated with fixing back to the retained structure and limited cavity depth.

Putney & Wood also installed lightweight stone cladding to the entrance door recesses, using veneered natural stone bonded to aluminium honeycomb backing panels to achieve a high-quality finish while minimising weight and structural load.
