South Hampstead United Synagogue

After almost 20 years of collaboration, the South Hampstead United Synagogue benefits from a bold, modern design, making it unique within its streetscape. The five-storey development was created to provide a dynamic focal point for the local Jewish community.

Following a fiercely competitive tender process, Wates appointed Putney & Wood to design, supply and install the Portland stone cladding. Projecting beyond a brickwork façade, the Portland stone incorporates a slotted opening which required careful co-ordination to ensure effective drainage within the cavity. The stonework also seamlessly conceals a 10-metre structural concrete beam above the entrance on the front elevation.
