Design, supply and installation of limestone cills, heads and copings in brickwork façade
St Albans Cathedral is one of the nation’s highest profile cathedrals. Dating back 1,700 years, its history is as colourful and event filled as its magnificent exterior. A sensitive project from outset, the project began in May 2017 with archaeology digs and culminates with the modern Welcome Centre marrying the Grade 1 listed cathedral to the 1980s Chapter House.
Costing in excess of £7m, with £4m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £3m raised from private donors, the new Welcome Centre, along with alterations to the Chapter House, provides a new visitor entrance, retail space, interpretation and exhibition areas, the relocated vestry, renovation of the existing café, additional education spaces and improved accessibility.
Putney & Wood were appointed by Thomas-Sinden to design, supply, and install limestone cills, heads and copings within the Welcome Centre’s brickwork façade. Although the contract value was relatively small, the sensitive nature of the project required meticulous attention to detail. The complementary testimonials demonstrate that our professionalism and customer care remain our highest priorities regardless of the size of the project.
