External Limestone Cladding
Located opposite the Tower of London, this luxury hotel is one of 16 in Grange’s ever-expanding London portfolio. Comprising eight storeys, the development includes 273 apartments and extensive retail accommodation at streel level.
Having worked on previous Grange Hotel properties at St. Paul’s, Tower Hill and Holborn; Putney & Wood prevailed again following a highly competitive tender process.
Putney & Wood’s design team worked closely with BHA, interpreting their drawings and providing large scale details of the stonework for their approval. Construction work considered a busy mainline railway above ground, and two tube lines running below.
Impala granite was used at plinth level for its low water absorption properties, with coarse grain Perlina limestone at ground floor level providing a contrast with the fine grain Moleanos limestone above. With limited onsite storage, 24-tonne trucks from Portugal were offloaded at Putney & Wood’s yard for the site team to call-off on a daily basis.
